March 2011

This is the garden during our last snowstorm.
Fortunately many houseplants are flowering.

Orchids.
Amaryllis.
Geraniums.

Cyclamen.
And branches of forsythia from the garden.

My husband is making me another spinning wheel.

He likes to make things.

This is a trebuchet he made for a Medieval Literature class I do with children. It fires corks across a classroom.

Oxalis.

We had rain today and LOTS of snow melted. So now there is just a tiny bit of ice left in the driveway.

Spring is in the air!

Wow ~ dramatic snow picture! It makes such a contrast to all the pretty flowers you have indoors ~ oxalis is such a simple and pretty flower ~

What a clever and helpful husband you have! That trebuchet thingy I'm sure is very popular with your students.

I think it is *so* awesome that your husband can make you spinning wheels!! Wow, what talent! I have a workshop at my disposal and have a few beginner-level skills, but haven't been brave enough to tackle a wheel yet. (I did just go order that Candace Crockett book, though!) Enjoy! My praises to him, and congratulations to you!

And now we gear up for seedlings all over the house (INDIGO!) and the dread MUD SEASON...Lovely new spinning wheel! Can't wait to see it!

Yes, Mr. Puffy's KB, the kids love to fire the trebuchet!

Thank you Caroline. I think we're going to try to make a video for YouTube of the wheels and my husband talking about making them, to give people courage to plunge in.

Karen, am excited about your indigo!!! But I love mud season, and now that the rain has gotten rid of some of the snow, my snowdrops are blooming!

Thank you all for your comments, and happy spring!

My husband and I moderate a yahoo group called 'SeigeEngines' where we have LOTS of people making their own. If he develops a hankering for them :-}
